The 2023 Poker Tournament Season Begins with a Bang

Now that everyone has slept, it’s time to return to the pool! The 2022 tournament poker season seemed to have concluded just a few weeks ago when Father Time exited the building. As the calendar rolls to 2023, a brand-new fleet of tournaments and a few surprises are expected to debut on the main circuits.

Opening of the Million Dollar Guaranteed Tournament at Borgata in 2023

Just when everyone is recovering from their New Year’s Eve hangovers, the Borgata in Atlantic City will launch its 2023 poker tournament schedule with a boom. The $2000 ($200 juice) Mystery Bounty tournament with a million dollars in guaranteed prizes is titled “The Return.” Day 1A is scheduled to begin on Monday, January 2, while Day 1B will begin later that day at 7:00 p.m. The Borgata would theoretically need 500 participants to fund the bounties, and the winner will be selected on Tuesday.

This tournament is only a warm-up for the main event. On Wednesday, the Borgata will hold a Championship Event featuring a $5,000 buy-in and some restrictions. The tournament has a guaranteed prize pool of $3 million and a guaranteed first-place reward of $1 million. The restoration of tournament action to the Borgata’s offerings is a bold move, and we will see whether the players react in like.

The World Series of Poker Circuit serves a dual purpose when the new tournament poker season begins. The WSOP International Circuit begins its 2023 activities with twelve tournaments at King’s Casino in Rozvadov from January 4 to January 24. The WSOP Circuit runs a U.S. event at the Choctaw Casino Resort in Oklahoma over the same time period.

The PokerGO Tour will not allow lesser circuits to have the upper hand. On January 11, they will launch the 2023 PokerGO Cup at the PokerGO Studios in Las Vegas. This eight-event “High Roller” tournament program will conclude on January 19 with the $50,000 Championship Event of the competition designed for broadcast.

In 2023, PokerStars will bring back an old acquaintance. The second PokerStars Players’ Championship will be held in January at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in the Bahamas. The 46-event festival will begin on January 22 at the Baha Mar Resort and Casino in Nassau, and will have everything a poker player could desire in January: sun, beach, tropical cocktails, and poker. In addition to the $25,000 PSPC, there will be an abundance of reward and High Roller events.

Where is the World Poker Tour? The ATP?

The World Poker Tour and the European Poker Tour, the two largest tournament poker circuits, will not begin play until later in 2023. The EPT will be the first of these two tournaments to begin play in a new site. The EPT Paris will commence on February 15 at the Hyatt Regency Paris Étoile. It will include a €10,000 High Roller, a €50,000 Super High Roller, a €3,000 Mystery Bounty, and the traditional €5,000 Main Event. The competition will conclude on February 26.

The WPT has a far more peculiar schedule, at least as it is now planned. At the end of January, the WPT Prime will take center stage at the Club Circus Paris for the WPT Prime Paris on January 31. The WPT is then set to be inactive until March, when the WPT Prime will resume at The Star Gold Coast in Australia and the WPT Prime Cambodia.

You may have many inquiries about the WPT timetable. Where is Borgata located? Where can you find Commerce Casino? Where is the Hard Rock Seminole? According to the WPT calendar, tournaments held in these locations are no longer official WPT events.

This is a disturbing occurrence. Since the WPT’s start twenty years ago, the L.A. Poker Classic (Commerce Casino) has been a prestigious event. The Frederic Remington “Bronco Buster” awards have become associated with poker prowess and WPT mythology. The Lucky Hearts Poker Open (Seminole Hard Rock in Hollywood, FL) has consistently attracted the biggest fields in WPT history. Even though the WPT will move to the Hard Rock later in 2023, neither the LAPC nor the Lucky Hearts are included in the official WPT calendar.

Does the WPT disregard its U.S. alternatives in favor of foreign competition? Poker News Daily attempted to contact the WPT’s leadership for clarification. At the time of publication, there was no reaction. The LAPC and Lucky Hearts competitions will continue in January, although their effect will be diminished by the WPT’s withdrawal.

The next thirty days will be crucial for players to begin the 2023 tournament poker season on the right foot. And it will all begin tomorrow with the opening of the Borgata.
